Cadira engages in deep dialogue with Timee, Inc. (hereinafter "Timee"), placing a strong emphasis on social impact. Rather than focusing solely on financial information, our engagement explores the broader social significance of side jobs and the future of employment.
A distinctive feature of Cadira’s engagement with portfolio companies is its commitment to fostering highly transparent dialogue by organizing webinars that involve external stakeholders. In addition, Cadira engages in conversations that revisit the company’s founding principles and future vision, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing the company’s fundamental value.
Timee operates a human resource matching platform that offers “side jobs” (short-term work during spare time) to individuals. For companies facing labor shortages, Timee provides a flexible solution to secure personnel during peak hours (e.g., lunch at restaurants), thus enhancing productivity. Founded in 2017 by CEO Ryo Ogawa while still a university student, Timee has grown to become the largest platform in Japan’s side-job market, with 10 million registered workers and over ¥90 billion in gross revenue (as of end-2024). In July 2024, the company went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market, just seven years after its founding.
Competitors include services from Persol Holdings and Mercari. Timee’s strength lies in its “top-of-mind” brand recognition, having pioneered the side-job market. Additionally, Timee deploys a dedicated team of several hundred people to support first-time corporate clients with onboarding and usage strategies—an advantage not easily replicated.
Timee contributes to resolving Japan’s labor shortage, especially in industries with significant demand fluctuations. The company also partners with local governments to support agricultural labor, which has even led to cases of urban-to-rural migration. Surveys conducted by Timee show its service enhances not only labor productivity but also customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and training efficiency, helping revitalize workplaces through improved processes and communication awareness.
CEO Ogawa originally envisioned Timee to help individuals make better use of their spare time. The company continues to focus on improving accessibility for workers, not just on the employer side. Surveys targeting parents and seniors confirmed that many users appreciate being able to work at their convenience or for health and mental well-being.
While concerns have been raised that such services may promote irregular employment, Timee proactively addresses these issues by establishing the "Spot Work Research Institute," a think tank that conducts ongoing studies and publishes reports to objectively assess the social impact of its services.
We have maintained regular dialogue with Timee, including hosting a webinar where Executive Officer Takayoshi Ishibashi, also head of the Spot Work Research Institute, spoke to an audience of asset owners, managers, NPOs, and think tank representatives. The presentation, enriched with data and research, explored how side jobs help address labor issues in Japan. While Timee's unique initiatives were highly praised, participants also pointed out the need for improved sustainability disclosures given the company’s recent listing.
In March 2025, we conducted a one-on-one meeting with CEO Ogawa. He reiterated his founding vision of enabling people to better utilize spare time and shared the app’s original concept, which focused on recommending suitable tasks for available time. The current work-centered service emerged from this idea. With 10 million registered users—many of whom are active—there is potential to expand into other areas of leisure-time services.
Though Timee currently focuses on employment-related services, we expect broader business development in the future and will continue offering strategic and impact-related support as appropriate.
