At Cadira Capital Management, our mission is "Connecting the Investment Chain and Beyond". Our goal is to create, through investment, a virtuous cycle that make our world a better place.
Our role as asset managers is to connect “investors” and “investee companies”, who are typically seen as the main actors in the investment chain. We seek to strengthen this connection through constructive dialogue in the form of our activity reports and feedback, in addition to connecting them through capital to make investments and generate returns.
If we look beyond the investment chain, there are many stakeholders. For example, beyond a pension plan, which is one of the representative investors, there are individual participants. Beyond an investee company, there are employees, customers, and so on. Because an individual plan participant can also be an employee, the investment chain is connected in a roundabout way.
“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” This is a famous African proverb quoted by Al Gore and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida. Given the choice between "going fast alone" and "going far together," we choose the latter. This is because we believe that a sustainable society is one in which many stakeholders are involved and continue to create value over the long term, not one in which a few people make a quick profit.
To embody our values, at Cadira we integrate a sustainability perspective into our investment activities, rather than taking it as a concept. This does not mean that we simply invest in companies with high ESG scores. Rather, we integrate sustainability considerations into all our activities, including the development of investment hypotheses, the measurement of corporate value, and the dialogue with our portfolio companies. Examples include investment hypotheses that start with social issues, corporate values that reflect impact, and coaching-based engagement. These are methodologies developed by fully leveraging the knowledge and experience that our portfolio managers have gained over the course of their careers, leading to better investment decisions based on a multi-dimensional view of a company's reality.
We believe that in order to achieve our mission, it is not only up to us, but also to move forward together with our stakeholders in the investment chain. If you are interested in working with us, please contact us through our website.
Sincerely,
Yu Shimizu, Chief Investment Officer
